Jukhee Kwon's attitude to knowledge and books is very different to John Latham's.
Jukhee Kwon, book artist, sees the book as a sculptural object containing strong energy. By cutting the pages and letting the contents spill out she is releasing that energy and celebrating freedom.
John Latham saw the book as a symbol of knowledge and power. He sawed books in half and used plaster to make them into sculptural objects. His object books spoke out against the inaccessibility of the way in which the education system is organised by those in our society with power and authority.
